Bizeolcat Project Newsletters
Bifunctional Zeolite based Catalysts and Innovative process for Sustainable Hydrocarbon Transformation GRANT AGREEMENT N°: 814671

30th June 2019

Welcome from the Coordinator

Welcome to the first edition of the Bizeolcat project Newsletter!
I am delighted to introduce you BIZEOLCAT Newsletter.
BIZEOLCAT is an H2020 project funded under which foresees an important task which is the contribution to the delivery of new technologies and business models in the petrochemical sector, helping it to govern the transition to circular economy. BIZEOLCAT is addressing the use of light alkanes as raw material for specialty chemical industry. As a result, Europe will enhance competitiveness and impact for jobs and growth.
The methodology of the project will evolve from laboratory to pilot scale demonstration. Catalysts, reactor design and operational conditions will be optimized for different feedstock at lab-scale and then upscaling will be carried out. The optimisation of these catalytic processes will bring enormous advantages for increasing their exploitation.
In this newsletter, you will find the list of partners, information about the kick-off meeting that took place on January 2019, the announcement of  the Brokerage Event in CIS 2019 and the date of the next issue. BIZEOLCAT is launching a revamped website with a new look and design. Some important updates have taken place to improve the layout of the website. Discover the new website.
Stay tuned for last developments in catalytic processes for the petrochemical sector. I am certain that our newsletter will be able to publish news about results from our work very soon.
I look forward to your questions or collaboration opportunities.
Yours sincerely
Ana Villacampa
BIZEOLCAT coordinator, Eurecat

The Project

The growth in world energy demand from fossil fuels has played a key role in the fast increase in CO2 emissions. Since the Industrial Revolution, annual CO2 emissions from fuel combustion have dramatically increased from near zero to over 33 GtCO2 in 20151. Technical improvements in catalysis are crucial to reduce this environmental burden in alignment towards the climate actions targets agreed in COP212.

BIZEOLCAT addresses the need for lowering the carbon footprint of refining industry, contributing to an evolving scenario of sustainable economy in such field.

BIZEOLCAT’s main objective is to obtain light olefins and aromatics using light hydrocarbons (C1, C3 and C4) by implementing new procedures, involving innovative catalysts synthesis methodologies and novel reactor design and processing, demonstrating their improvement in sustainability and economic scalability in existing industrial processes.

Upbringing the use of light alkanes as raw material for specialty chemical industry and not as feedstock for fuels in the current oil refining process, BIZEOLCAT contributes to this transition.

Existing industrial approaches in the field of catalytic conversion of alkanes into high value chemicals have been developed worldwide with catalysts that lack site homogeneity with only a small fraction of active species.

The novelty relies on a unique preparation methodology providing 100% active sites and maximum dispersion of the active phase on the support. Consequently, with these novelties, the proposed processes will be more energy and cost efficient.
